Mission Granbury: providing help, safety, self sufficiency and well-being

Primary Prevention Program

Primary Prevention aims to stop violence BEFORE it occurs and build safe, healthy communities. Ending violence & sexual violence requires comprehensive, community based initiatives that address systemic issues, attitudes, behaviors and norms that perpetuate violence.

Prevention programs are usually designed for use in a particular setting, such as home, school or within the community, but can be adapted for use in several settings. In addition, programs are also designed with the intended audience in mind: for everyone in the population, for those at greater risk, and for those already involved with drugs or other problem behavior. Some programs can be geared for more than one audience.

Mission Granbury is working diligently with the SAPCS (Sexual Assault & Prevention Crisis Services) grant to bring about change in our community.

Sexual violence has a devastating impact on individuals, families, communities and our society as a whole. In Texas, approximately 1.9 million adult Texans or 13% of adult Texans have been sexually assaulted at some point in their lifetime. The proportion of sexual assault is significantly higher in females (20%) than males (5%). Although these numbers are staggering, the true numbers in Texas are difficult to assess since most cases go unreported.

Currently many of our staff have had professional trainings form TAASA (Texas Association Against Sexual Assault) TCFV (Texas Council on Family Violence) OAG (Office of the Attorney General) to empower our abilities to go into the community and begin implementation of prevention principles.

If you are interested in helping with mentoring programs at our local schools and clubs or would like to assist in our efforts, please contact Rhonda Rogers, Director Outreach & Education at Mission Granbury.
